Preparing And Recovering: Why These 2 Things May Be More Important Than Your Actual Workout
So you just finished your morning workout routine at at the gym, and this time you were a little more sluggish, a little slower in your supersets, and had a little less hop in your step getting to the cardio machines...and now after your workout, you are feeling exhausted, worn down, and physically and mentally drained instead of how you know you should feel; energized, refreshed, and ready to take on the day. If your asking yourself why you are feeling this way, the answer is most likely because of poor preparation and recovery. What do I mean by this?? This simply means that you did not prep your body, and/or recover your body with the proper nutrients, rest, and hydration(among some other things) before and after your workout.
Some people think that by simply going to the gym, and walking through the doors they are going to get results and feel great..
they may feel great about themselves for going to the gym, but that's only half of it. In order for your body to feel great and to get results, proper preparation and recovery are key..and isn't that what we want? Im assuming most people would love to feel great about themselves for going to the gym AND have their body respond the right way and feel great physically during and after the gym.
Understanding the importance of preparation and recovery is key..
By understanding how the body works, and how it responds, you can properly gauge your body's physical needs. To do this you do not need to be a doctor, or have a degree in nutrition, health or anything along those lines. One simple way to break this down, is to think of your body as automobile. If you are planning a 15 hr road trip, it is probably a smart thing to fuel up, check the oil, put air in your tires and make sure everything is running properly..and when you return it would probably be wise to get an oil change, and take in into the shop for a tune-up. The same approach should be used with your body(hypothetically of course) before and after each workout. You should be eating and hydrating properly and getting plenty of rest, and after the workout doing the same, yes after too! Remember, after your workout at the gym you are not done. The things you do after your workout are just as important if not more important than what you do prior to your workout. By understanding and valuing these important aspects of fitness, you will find that
Your body will be running like a fine-tuned Maseratti instead of a worn-down Volkswagen!!
